AI workloads generate extreme, rapid load swings — from near-idle to full rack density in seconds — unlike the steadier profiles traditional data centres were built around. Through a case study developed with a data centre operator, this session examines how backup generators can handle this new class of transient loading, covering dynamic response, voltage and frequency stability, and what the results reveal about the limits and capabilities of current generator technology.
