Events: Where Leads Get Lost
Trade shows and events remain central to B2B sales strategies, but too many contacts are lost before reaching the CRM. Artificial intelligence is changing the post-event phase, turning business cards and conversations into measurable opportunities.
The black hole between the meeting and the CRM
Every event generates dozens of promising conversations, but the real game is played afterwards: business cards to digitize, notes to decipher, contacts to enter manually into the CRM. According to TAC's estimates, 6 out of 10 leads collected at events never reach the CRM, and syncing contacts takes more than 8 hours of manual work. The consequences are concrete:
- Lost leads: contacts collected but never actually pursued.
- Unqualified leads: they convert up to 50% less than data-enriched ones.
- Opaque ROI: over 30% of event budgets is allocated without data on real returns.
Artificial intelligence enters the post-event phase
The market is responding with intelligent automation. The most advanced networking platforms use AI to digitize paper contacts, complete profiles with public data on people and companies, and suggest personalized follow-ups, all the way to pushing qualified leads into the CRM. The shift is conceptual before it is technological: networking stops being an occasional collection of names and becomes a structured, repeatable and measurable process.
Ecosystems and partnerships: the integration path
In this scenario, TAC (Touch & Contact), a Rome-based company with over 700 client companies and more than 100,000 users, renewed its membership in September 2026 in HR Alliance, the program through which Zucchetti complements its offering with third-party solutions that have already passed the test of the market. With over 1,700 solutions in its catalog, even a major software house cannot develop every specialized application in-house, hence the choice to select and vouch for external components.
For a startup, as CEO Matteo Saltarello and CRO Edoardo Costa point out, engaging with major IT players is a testing ground both for the quality of the solution and for its compatibility with other technologies, a compatibility that also relies on integrations with CRMs such as Salesforce, HubSpot and Microsoft Dynamics 365.
The lesson for anyone attending trade shows and events is clear: technology and AI are tools, but value comes from professional relationships nurtured over time. Those who can quickly turn a meeting into action, and measure the outcome, make networking an investment rather than a cost.
