We live in an era in which companies across all sectors—insurance, healthcare, banking, retail, and professional services—are increasingly relying on digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and massive volumes of data to differentiate themselves, grow, and offer a better experience to their customers. However, this transformation rests on a reality that is often overlooked in business discussions: thecritical physical infrastructurethat enables data to exist, be processed, travel, and remain constantly available. The convergence of cloud, edge, and on-premises data centers; the explosion of generative and agent-based AI; the unprecedented increase in energy density per rack; and new regulatory and sustainability requirements (NIS2, DORA, decarbonization) are redefining what it truly means to be prepared to operate in a digital environment. In this roundtable, we aim to highlight why critical infrastructure—from power and cooling to intelligent monitoring and management software—has evolved from being solely the responsibility of the CIO or the IT department to becoming astrategic business driver, and how its technological evolution (from grid to chip, from chip to chiller) is what ensures that digital services, AI adoption, and operational continuity are truly sustainable, resilient, and scalable in the long term.
