Natalia Arenas Rivera
Adjunct Physician of Breast Radiology,
Hospital del Mar, Barcelona
Dr. Arenas is a radiologist specializing in breast radiology and an attending physician at the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona, where she also participates as a reader in the Breast Cancer Early Detection Program. She combines her hospital care activity with research and teaching, participating as an author in multiple publications and being a member of the editorial team of the Revista Española de Radiología. Currently, she leads the AI WaveMar project, an artificial intelligence model developed to optimize the early detection of suspicious mammographic findings. AI WaveMar is an artificial intelligence tool developed entirely at the Hospital del Mar to assist radiologists in mammographic interpretation in population-based breast cancer screening. It is a model based on convolutional neural networks, which has been designed and trained with more than 48,000 mammographic images, including data from the local target population. AI WaveMar aims to improve screening efficiency, reducing false positives and negatives and integrating non-invasively into the workflow, without restrictions on the number of licenses, making it sustainable.
